Our History

Thirty-one years after James Pierson first envisioned building a town in north Denton County in 1853, Pilot Point’s first bank opened its doors. In 1884, the institution, known then as Pilot Point Bank, began serving the local community, according to records from the Pilot Point Chamber of Commerce.

Pilot Point National Bank was officially chartered on July 13, 1892, eight years after beginning operations as a non-chartered bank. On November 15, 1995, the bank adopted a shorter name and became known as PointBank. Today, PointBank proudly operates nine branches throughout Denton County, with plans for continued growth and expansion.

The bank’s first president was A.H. Gee, and it was originally capitalized with $80,000. J.A.L. McFarland served as the bank’s first cashier. Over the years, several leaders have continued this legacy of service:

  • H.W. Gee (1929–1938)

  • J. Earl Selz (1938–1963)

  • Walter Ray (1963–1976)

  • Ralph Burton (1976–1981)

  • J. Raymond David, Sr. (1981–2004)

  • Ray David, Jr. (2004–present)

PointBank was originally located in the building that now serves as City Hall, situated at the northeast corner of Main and Jefferson Streets in Pilot Point. That building, constructed in 1892, was remodeled in 1940. In 1965, the bank relocated its operations to 324 South Washington Street in Pilot Point.

In February 1987, PointBank opened its first branch office at 423 Tisdell Lane in Aubrey, Texas. In December 2005, the Aubrey branch moved to its current location at 922 S. Highway 377.

The second branch opened in May 1987 at 200 S. Highway 377 in Pilot Point. In July 1988, the main banking operations on Washington Street were moved to this new Highway 377 location.

In May 1992, PointBank expanded into Denton with a branch at 401 W. University Drive, known as the Denton North branch. In August 2003, this branch moved to its current location at 1700 N. Carroll Boulevard.

Another Denton branch—Denton South—was opened in April 1994 at 2410 I-35E South. In December 1998, it relocated to its current location at 525 South I-35E.

In August 1996, a branch opened in Lewisville at 915 W. Main Street.

The Lake Cities branch, located at 3971 FM 2181 in Corinth, opened in February 2000.

A new branch opened in Argyle on April 23, 2001, originally at 100 Country Club Road. It was later relocated to its current home at 302 N. Highway 377.

In May 2004, PointBank expanded to Little Elm with a branch at 2103 E. Eldorado Parkway.

In August 2005, a branch opened on the University of North Texas campus at 101 Avenue A. This location uniquely featured a coffee shop that served Seattle’s Best coffee and Kolache Haus kolaches. Due to market changes, the UNT branch closed in May 2008.

In June 2008, PointBank opened a new branch on Long Prairie Road in Flower Mound.

In May 2009, a new building adjacent to the Denton North branch was constructed to house the Operations, IT, and Customer Care departments.

Through every chapter of our history, PointBank has remained deeply committed to the people and communities of Denton County. From our first days in a single building to our presence across the region today, our focus remains the same: serving with stability, integrity, and a true community spirit.
